Brightest and Best: Notting Hill Carnival
You guys, it's almost that time of the year again: when you can sport your body weight in sequins, dance with a policeman and drink copiously ('cause that only happens once a year, right?).
If you're anything like me, you love love love Notting Hill - not just because of the amazing floats, live music and attractive people in their best summer-flirtation mode - but because it's a chance to have a lot of fun with your style.
Maybe you're one of those groovy so-and-sos who has an endless wardrobe of off-beat party dresses/quirky headgear that look perfect for the occasion.
If not, I've hand-selected my best of Notting Hill street style from last year just in case you're in need of a little inspiration.
MORE IS MORE
Remember that old Coco Chanel adage about removing a single accessory before you leave the house so you've never anything but understatedly elegant? Now turn that rule on its head and on Carnival Day, add an accessory. Or two or three or four...let's face it, it's the only day pairing your high-shine American Apparel disco pants with huge sunnies, pink lipstick, a quiff and a scarf tied round your hair works, right?
Dressing all in black looks chic, but when you're trying to direct your friend to you in the midst of an enormous, seething crowd, you'll be glad you wore an eye-catching print, so you can be all 'Hey, can you SPOT the polka dots?' and combine hilarity with practical fashion purposes.
FLOWERS ARE ALWAYS ADORABLE
Imagine seeing this girl through a haze of burger smoke! This bouquet of fresh flowers is so wonderfully inappropriate that it works! Guaranteed to make strangers smile and people give up their place for you on the bus home so you don't get jostled.
ADD SOME SPARKLE
Festivals aside, what other occasion are you permitted to prance about in sequins during the daylight hours? I mean, apart from your eighth birthday party, obvs. Embrace the madness and go nuts with that glitter eyeshadow you've never used.
Not Notting Hill carnival-y enough? Yep, I know what you mean. Ultimately, these pictures are all the inspiration you'll need:
See you there! Don't forget to tell us what you'll be wearing in the comments.
