Cara Develingne's Style Compared To...Britain's 57 Year Old Home Secretary?!

Image

In my absolute favourite fashion story of the week, Conservative MP Theresa May has finally commented on the comparisons drawn between her style and that of risqué supermodel du jour, Cara Delevingne.

If you’re wondering who would compare the fashion sense of a usually demurely dressed Theresa May with a spindly twenty something for a penchant for flashing flesh, beanies and sticking her tongue out in Instagrams, that’d be the Daily Mail. Britain’s favourite scandal rag has recently published a series of a tongue-in-cheek articles depicting the model and MP side by side in a series of snaps, which are actually (and as a good leftie, I say this wincingly), kind of funny.

Now May has finally revealed what she thinks of the comparisons between her and the blonde bombshell.

When collecting the Politician of the Year Award at the Spectator Magazine Awards, the MP confessed, "This is the second good thing that's happened to me today because this morning, the Daily Mail asked: 'Is Theresa may the new Cara Delevingne?"

She went on to explain to those who weren’t au fait with the wild world of fashion:

"For those of you who don't know she is 21, a supermodel and one of the most beautiful in the world so I think we can safely say that the answer to that has to be filed by John Rentoul as a question to which the answer is no."

Does this mean we can assume we won’t see May palling about with the likes of Harry Styles and Radio 1’s Nick ‘Grimmy’ Grimshaw in a suitably grimy East London pub in the near future? Shame.

Can’t believe the comparison? Check out the pictures below – all via Daily Mail.

Cara does eccentric boho in wild patterns and over the knee boots.

Theresa's giving Cara a run for her money in the style stakes with this similarly loud coat and just as high boots.

Skinny supermodel bares flesh at groovy party. Yawn. Don't get me wrong, Cara looks great, but we've seen this look a million times before.

In contrast, I think Theresa looks rather lovely here - unlike the Daily Mail, I don't think this dress only suits 'skinny best' - in fact, while Cara looks a little undernourished, Theresa looks glowing, happy and healthy.

Both women are fans of dresses in floaty, just-about-to-go-to-Glastonbury patterns...

But the ever-practical Ms May rocks hers with flats, not spindly heels.

The last comparison is a little unfair. Sure, they're both in grey suits, but Cara's is more David Bowie than David Brent...

While Theresa's is eminently respectable.
