Michelle Obama's Favourite Designer Launches Make Up Range With LancômeWe wonder when 30 year old Jason Wu finds time to sleep. Not only does Michelle Obama's favourite designer have his own best-selling fashion range and was named the Art Director of Hugo Boss this year, but now Wu's teaming up with makeup giant Lancôme to launch his own range of cosmetics. Lancôme's always been happy to pair up with talented fashion folk, having previously collaborated with L'Wren Scott, Jenny Packham and Lanvin's Alber Ebaz. Wu's limited edition line of lipsticks, eye shadows and nail varnishes will be on sale in time for fashion week and he feels his range will 'stand out on the beauty floor'. 'I feel like if you can design beautiful things, you can apply that ethos to anything you design,' said the designer in a recent interview with WWD. 'I think make up is one of the closest parts to fashion - it goes hand in hand in almost every single case. When you have great hair and make-up, it brings out the clothes even more.' Wu's compacts will come in his signature shade of a sleek dove grey and will run alongside transparent lace bags designed to hold his new line of products. 'Every little detail has been customised and designed for this collaboration, so it feels very special and complete.' Wu said. The designer tested out his products in his catwalk show in February, with models boasting a bright violet eye shadow, his favourite shade from the new collection. Wu shot to fame when Michelle Obama singled the formerly little-known designer out for special attention, sporting his designs at the inaugural balls on the night of President Obama's first and second term inauguration. When Michelle was asked to appear on the cover of Vogue, nobody was surprised when Obama once again wore a Wu design, a magenta silk dress. We can see the appeal - Wu specialises in clean lines and a femininity that's modern and simple. His designs for his spring collection earlier this year wowed fans, despite a blizzard that made attending his New York show tricky to attend. But hey - these are clothes worth battling through a storm for! Wu specialises in making lady-like designs feel fresh and modern again. "Think back to Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, and Christian Lacroix. Those designers are part of the reason why I became infatuated with fashion. They made pretty clothes,” Wu said. After Michelle Obama's championing of his brand, Wu's designs have become a firm favourite with celebrities, especially for the red carpet. If Wu's make-up is half as pretty as his gorgeous, lady-like clothes, we look forward to splashing out on cosmetics and living off baked beans for the rest of the month in a violet-eyeshadowed haze of happiness... The line will include 15 items and will be available from US department store Nordstrom this September - and yes, Nordstrom does ship to the UK!
