What to Wear to 2017's Chelsea Flower Show

You know summer is on its way when the Chelsea Flower Show starts. The Royal Horticultural Society's annual event is an institution -- and as soon as the blooms come out to play, Londoners flock to celebrate the great and the good of the gardening world with a wealth of beautiful botanicals and green-fingered marvels to inspire. It's not just among the flower beds that you can spot the blooms, it's on the visitors too. And what better time is there to don your best? The Chelsea Flower Show is the equivalent of Fashion Week in the gardening world -- and the outfits certainly reflect that. On May 23, you’ll be able to walk through the gates of the show. And, being that it's important to channel elegance and sophistication for this occasion (whilst bearing in mind that it's also a daytime event) here are some of our favourite suggestions for what to wear to the 2017 Chelsea Flower Show... ---------- Floral Fever Whether you’re planning on attending the Chelsea Flower Show, or if you’re just inspired by the quintessentially British horticultural event, we’ve found the perfect summer dress for you. This vintage style ASOS number set our hearts a flutter the minute we spotted it, as it perfectly walks the line between flattering feminity and striking sophistication. [caption id="attachment_2429" align="aligncenter" width="418"]Image via ASOS Image via ASOS[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2430" align="aligncenter" width="405"]Image via ASOS Image via ASOS[/caption] Team with a statement metallic heel and bold lip for a modern look, or keep it pared-back and classic with nude strappies and delicate gold jewellery. However you wear this piece, it’s a seriously prizeworthy must-have. A pretty summer dress like this works perfectly when worn with a tailored jacket or cardi over the top. But, while you may take inspiration from the show, we are certainly not saying that you should go head-to-toe flower power. In fact... ---------- A Fab Scent [caption id="attachment_2426" align="alignnone" width="599"] Image via Selfridges[/caption] If you're frantically trying to decide what to wear to the Chelsea Flower Show but don’t want to wear anything obviously floral, opt for an invisible floral bouquet around your neck instead -- wear a gorgeous scent! Diptyque's Florabellio' eau de toilette is perfect for the occasion. It includes an unexpected hint of Apple Blossom. We're huge fans of Miu Miu L'Eau Bleue Eau de Parfum, too, which blends lily of the valley and akigalawood. Another slightly heavier favourite of ours is YSL Black Opium Floral Shock. Pear, orange blossom, and gardenia give YSL's signature scent a nice floral twist for spring, but it's also a nice grown-up scent. ---------- Feminine Frills and Pastel Palettes For a truly feminine and graceful nod to seasonal florals, whimsical pastel shades offer a seamless style for the more sophisticated of dressers. A refined bit of frill in pale shades like blush pink or delicate creme will also ooze sophistication. Shop our blush pink Victoria shirt here, our ivory wrapover Vera shirt here, and our baby blue Laura shirt here. ---------- Crisp Whites Aaahhh the crisp whites. You knew they'd pop up at some point on this list, didn't you? We love florals, but you don't have to let flowers do all the talking: Cropped trousers or a high-waisted skirt paired with a luxury white shirt may prove an equally good option! [caption id="attachment_2420" align="aligncenter" width="627"]Paltrow+promotes+flower+show+kNHkiOge5z_x Image via Livingly[/caption] If you want to keep your floral offering subtle and refined, go for an all-white or white and neutral ensemble. White lace, embroidery and broderie anglaise offer a suitably chic approach to spring florals. [caption id="attachment_2441" align="aligncenter" width="632"]Image via Zimbio Image via Zimbio[/caption] Team white with soft brown leather and tan accessories just like Gwynnie at the Chelsea Flower Show, or for a more refined finish, go for a pure white look with a clean-cut tailored white shirt and fitted jacket like Naomie Harris. Our embroidered Bethany shirt and our broderie anglaise Bonnie shirt, pictured below, are pretty perfect for the job! [caption id="attachment_2431" align="aligncenter" width="467"]The Shirt Company The Shirt Company[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2421" align="aligncenter" width="470"]bethany The Shirt Company[/caption] ---------- A great SPF (because you never know when the sun might show up...) [caption id="attachment_2424" align="aligncenter" width="420"]beauty-products-best-of-beauty-2014-josie-maran-argan-daily-moisturizer Image via Sephora[/caption] We love Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47 which uses mineral sunscreens to protect against sun damage. It also packs moisturising argan oil and antioxidants into a fast-absorbing, nongreasy formula. To sum it up: We can't think of anything better to wear on your face out and about in the English summer! ---------- Dark Buds We've said it before, and we'll say it again: Don't be afraid of the dark side! Bright and bold floral dresses are on display in abundance every year at the Chelsea Flower Show, but black is often an overlooked outfit shade at summer events. Silly really, because a beautifully polished chic black piece will stand out beautifully against a backdrop of vibrant florals and add a touch of edginess. Just learn from Miranda and Kate: [caption id="attachment_2435" align="aligncenter" width="479"]The Shirt Company Image via Lookastic[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2436" align="aligncenter" width="454"]mossy Image via The Telegraph[/caption] If you're inclined to think that a sultry black dress like Kate's is a bit too risqué for daytime, then a rich floral midi skirt and silky black blouse combination will elevate daytime florals. Our Marica, with its organdie collar and cuffs -- and our black Vera, featuring a crossover frill front and generous bow -- look equally great with skirts and trousers for instant glamour. Whether paired with a simple dress, or adding a feminine twist to your luxe knitwear at the Chelsea Flower Show, a collar provides you with endless styling options. [caption id="attachment_2448" align="aligncenter" width="435"]Image via Pinterest Image via Pinterest[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2447" align="aligncenter" width="434"]Image via Who What Wear Image via Who What Wear[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2444" align="aligncenter" width="443"]Image via StyleBistro Image via StyleBistro[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2451" align="aligncenter" width="450"]Image via Porter Magazine Image via Porter Magazine[/caption] Adding texture provides interest and instantly updates any look. Plus, the look never goes out of style. Take an edgy approach to this trend with the crisp pleats of the Orlanda stand collar. Or, for a more feminine look, go for our Peony collar. Named after one our favorite blooms, this little number is a beautifully indulgent addition to any wardrobe -- and your perfect Chelsea Flower Show accomplice... peony This all-purpose, versatile garment just got GLAMOROUS! So, tell us ladies -- will you be attending this year's Chelsea Flower Show? And if so, what will you wear to the blooming marvellous event?
